The Kyiv Classic Orchestra has transformed classical and authentic Ukrainian music into a transborder language that affirms Ukraine's subjectivity in the world. This is a phenomenon of "Art and Power", where each concert becomes a manifesto of Ukrainian independence and spiritual maturity. The collective integrates our musical heritage into the global context, demonstrating that Ukrainian identity is a fundamental part of European civilization, and performances under the auspices of UNESCO fix it as elitist and profound.

The highest manifestation of this phenomenon was the act of March 9, 2022. When Kyiv was semi-encircled under the threat of an assault, the orchestra, led by Herman Makarenko, went to the barricaded Independence Square with the art action "Free Sky". On Taras Shevchenko’s birthday, in minus four degrees of frost and to the sounds of cannonade, part of the collective that remained in the blockaded capital performed despite the critical lack of instruments. This performance was intended to support the appeal of the President and people of Ukraine to world leaders to close the sky (No-Fly Zone).

The performed repertoire-manifesto — the National Anthem of Ukraine, the National Anthem of Europe (“Ode to Joy”), a fragment of the ballet “Lily” by K. Dankevych, “The Cossack” by S. Hulak-Artemovsky, and the overture to the opera “Taras Bulba” by M. Lysenko — received a colossal global resonance. The live broadcast in the telethon and materials in more than 250 leading world media outlets (Reuters, BBC, CNN) destroyed hostile myths and demonstrated to the planet the spirit of invincibility through elitist art. This performance became a classic example of spiritual defense: when the bow becomes a weapon, the orchestra transforms a potential war zone into a world podium.

Psycho-emotional healing and mental shield.

In the first days of total shock and threat, the concert on Maidan became the first powerful act of collective psychotherapy for millions of Ukrainians in shelters and near screens. Music amidst sirens proved that life is stronger than destruction, becoming a medicine against panic and despair.

Today, this experience has been scaled up into a systemic charitable activity aimed at psychological recovery and overcoming PTSD symptoms in wounded servicemen and internally displaced persons. A separate vector are concerts for medical workers - those who keep the physical health of the nation on the verge of exhaustion. The orchestra works on the concept of "healing the spirit", returning moral strength to those who save lives on the medical front every day.

The implementation of the project's mission is ensured by the delicate interaction of the leader and his team in extreme conditions.

Herman Makarenko is the first Ukrainian musician to be awarded the high status of UNESCO Artist for Peace. His authority and uncompromising civic position allowed him to gather performers in the blockaded capital in March 2022 to declare Ukrainian culture to the whole world. He acts as a global ambassador, opening the doors of the most prestigious halls to protect Ukrainian identity.

The orchestra's collective showed the highest degree of solidarity and professional courage. Despite the real danger, lack of instruments due to the logistical blockade and difficult weather conditions, the team sounded like a single orchestral organism. Their ability to work in extreme locations — from international diplomatic sites to military hospitals and railway stations — demonstrates unique mobility, high performing culture and absolute dedication to the idea of ​​preserving the spiritual sources of Ukraine.
