During the full-scale siege of Mariupol in the spring of 2022, the hospital's doctors performed a real feat, showing superhuman courage, professionalism, and devotion to the Hippocratic oath. During the 40 days of the blockade, the hospital staff continuously saved people's lives in critical conditions.
A third of the full-time staff, who remained on duty, received hundreds of wounded military and civilian citizens around the clock.
The doctors operated without electricity, heating, and centralized water supply. Due to a lack of resources, the doctors were forced to cook food with saline, extract fuel for generators from broken gas stations, and risk their lives to find medicines.
The medical staff did not leave the patients until the last one, until the building of the institution was completely destroyed by Russian shelling.
Three doctors of the hospital died in the line of duty: Anatoliy Kazantsev, Serhiy Vlasyuk, and Andriy Hnatyuk.
