During the fighting, serviceman Vlad received a severe thoraco-abdominal wound and was transported from the battlefield to the advanced surgical department. While providing medical care, in fact in the field, he suffered a cardiac arrest. Resuscitation measures were carried out in conditions of extreme risk and time shortage; one of the decisive stages was direct heart massage, thanks to which cardiac activity was restored.

After stabilization, the patient was evacuated to the next stages of medical care and underwent treatment and rehabilitation in hospitals for over a year. Despite the severity of the injury and the length of recovery, he returned to life: he was discharged from the hospital, retained full mental functionality, underwent prosthetics, started a family, and this year became a father.

So, in war conditions, doctors not only save a person’s life at a critical moment, but also consistently return him to the fullness of human existence. This is not an isolated clinical case, but a manifestation of a new humanistic paradigm of Ukrainian war medicine, centered on the unconditional value of human life, the fight for it even in an almost hopeless situation, and bringing salvation to the real recovery of a person.
